NPC for timely reporting of MW2063 progress

National Planning Commission (NPC) has asked non-State actors and government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to give input and make timely reporting to facilitate consolidated implementation of Malawi 2063 (MW2063).

NPC senior development specialist responsible for infrastructure Maxwell Maida made the remarks in Lilongwe on Friday on the sidelines of a MW2063 Urbanisation Pillar Reporting meeting for stakeholders in the sector.

He said since the launch of the MW2063, government input has dominated reports on the implementation of the country’s long-term development strategy.

Said Maida: “The Malawi 2063 is a vision for the whole country and, as government is pushing for various interventions, we also expect that the non-State actors and the private sector will also do their part in implementing some interventions to complement what government is doing.”

He, however, observed that several MDAs are doing well on reporting the MW2063 implementation progress.

Centre for Community Organisation and Development (Ccode) executive director Zilile Luka said the meeting was critical to ensuring that stakeholders in the MW2063 Urbanisation Pillar have their input included in the implementation.

“We have brought together all non-State actors working in the area of urbanisation to consolidate a report and submit it to government. We want everyone to contribute towards the agenda process,” he said.

One of the participants, Innobuild chief executive officer Billy Jonathan Chiotha said the private sector are front runners in investment and employment; hence, they play a key role in MW2063 implementation.
